People have a thing against restaurants in Eureka. Search on Yelp revealed not too many good results, so I have to consult other sites. Turned out, I had a good weekend here with a lot of good food experiences. This is one of them. First off, I have to preface everything by saying, Eureka is a small town, ok, people? Don't expect fancy interiors. Don't expect great service. That's not to say that there aren't place with spectacular interiors and service, but on average, do not expect to get the Fifth Avenue treatment. The service was a bit slow here, and we weren't that happy about it. They did serve the bread quite quickly, so we were mostly just waiting for the waiter to take our order while chomping on the bread. The bread was quite amazing. Pair it with their garlic herb butter and you've got heaven in your mouth! The butter is probably one of the best that I've had, and I couldn't stop eating it! The meals came with soup or salad. I got the Italian vegetable soup, which was pretty good. The salad was what amazed me though -- a side salad usually consists of some veggies with dressing dumped on it. Not this! This is basically a fully dressed salad with a good selection of vegetables and nicely presented. It's great to see restaurants paying attention even to the sides. I got the cioppino. This was more like a lazy man's cioppino -- apart from the shrimp tails, all shells were taken off for you. The sauce was nice and fiery, the bread on it fresh, and the seafood quite decent (the scallops were great!!). Not the best but I enjoyed it. The mister got the seafood manicotti. The sauce is so rich in this one, if you're a small to average eater, get the half order! That said, it was very good. They also have a nice list of local (Californian) wines. We got 2 different reds and we both liked the wine a lot. Give this place a chance, Yelpers.
